Dining Table Spring Vignette

 

Not much to write about today........  

Just sharing a few pics of the dining table.

Spring is never coming outside,

so we might as well make it happen inside.

 

 

We tied for a record all time low, and we are covered in a blanket of snow in Oklahoma today (sigh).  That's ok.  The birds are nesting, the bunnies are hopping, and the flowers are blooming inside my home......I can do this!

Valentines Around the House

Today I thought I'd post some Valentine 

pictures from around my house.

I draped a leopard scarf around this lampshade 

and dressed it up with some red tuille.

Some cardboard letters look pretty sweet with 

glitter hearts and lips.  I love this "O" with the lips on it.

The red heart box is my favorite Valentine gift from my hubby.

Oh, and did you know.....Chocolate Lindt Truffles only have

5 1/3 carbs each?  That's awesome!

They look so cute peeking out of this jar.

Metal Letter With Burlap Roses

Last month I share how I dressed up 

a Hobby Lobby metal letter like this:

This month for Valentines Day 

I added red tuille and some burlap roses.

This is how it looks now: 

I made the roses by cutting 2" x 46" strips of burlap.  I folded the strips in half lengthwise, then twisted and coiled in a circle, securing with hot glue as I went.

Kind of reminds me of Mary Engelbreit, doesn't it you?

A Valentine Dining Tablescape

To create this festive table vignette, I picked up a couple of really cute items at the $ Tree.  Valentine "stuff" is so much cuter than it used to be.  I already had an arrangement on the table that I liked, see here, I just wanted to change it up for this Season of Love.

The gift bag sure gives a lot of "bang" for $1.  I also purchased some little heart boxes of chocolates, chocolate lips, and a set of 2 chinese red-heart carry out boxes (under the tallest candle).  Everything else was pulled from shopping my home.

This candy is laying on top of some crystal beads and black chess pieces.  I probably wouldn't do this with little ones around who might pop the beads in their mouths.

Dressing candles up with bracelets is always a great way to add bling to candles.

This little guy seems to enjoy being on display again.

You Won't Believe What She Did With A Bathroom Cabinet

I am a sucker for things that can be given a new life - especially if they are made with good bones.  It truly kills me to rip out something in a remodel and not find a new purpose for it, especially if it can be salvaged in any way.  Like this bathroom cabinet:

 

We pulled it out because we are gutting and remodeling this upstairs bathroom.  It was built and added to this bath shortly before we purchased the home about 15 years ago, and is not 1929 original.  We don't wish to keep it in the bathroom, because it takes up too much space, and the style is not right for what we wish to do.  But the carpenter did such a good job, I just hate to throw it on the debris pile.

So I didn't.  I have long wanted a plate cabinet or rack to break up a small hallway that runs from our entry to the kitchen.  This may not have been exactly what I would have drawn up, but it was close enough not to consider it.

I ripped out a couple of the shelves, touched up the paint, and adhered fabric to the back of the cabinet with starch.  I also added a furniture handle to one of the shelves as a plate stop.

Due to its weight, I decided to paint an old sewing machine cabinet and place it under the shelf for support.  The upper is attached to the wall to keep it from falling over, but the weight is on the sewing cabinet.

The depth is great for this hallway, and I'm truly delighted with the results.  A tall cabinet is what was needed in this space, and I'm really happy it came from something that could have been thrown out as useless.

Doesn't it look different?

That sure was fun!

Apothecary Jars - A Wintery Collection

Last year on my blog, The Lavender Tub, I shared a collection of apothecary jars and glass displays that are fun to change out for the different seasons.  You can see more about them, here, with some autumn ideas.  Today I'm sharing a wintery mix.

This raw cotton was grown and picked by our Aunt Dorothy.

The beads that grow when added to water look 

like small balls of ice.

 A frosted leaf in a frame and a little bird add some silver shimmer.

This fire and ice crystal candle holder 

looks like it's from Elsa's castle.

These lovely candlesticks used to be lamps.

It was a bit warm for us in Oklahoma today - 80 degrees.  It seems our winter is already passing, and these icy looks are past their time.  Around here we all know better, though.  The sun is just toying with us, and by Sunday it's supposed to be a low of 27.   

Metal Letter Art - Easy Decorating

For my birthday in November I received this big metal letter from Hobby Lobby.

 It is pretty fun the way it is, but I can't seem to help myself in changing it up a bit.  By adding some silver shimmery ribbon held in place with magnets, it currently looks like this:

I know I have it easy with a letter H, but you can create curves with wired ribbon by pulling the wire on one side and gathering it to fit the shape of your letter - be it an "S" or a "P" or something.  This is a small wreath I made by gathering ribbon that way.

The size of this letter makes a nice statement.  I'm looking forward to changing it up with the seasons.  Stay tuned.....
